Jon’s life path, like many others, had its share of twists and turns. He wore several professional hats prior to entering the counseling field. After graduating from Anoka High School, Jon joined the US Navy and served four years in San Francisco. Then, he served an additional 20 years in the Army Reserve for a combined 24 years of military service. Upon leaving active duty service in the Navy, Jon took advantage of the GI Bill to complete his college education at Mankato State University, majoring in education. During the years following college, Jon became a High School teacher. When he left the field of education, he owned a small business for several years. Additionally, Jon worked in the financial services industry.
Listening and Leading
In these different career paths, Jon noticed people regularly reached out to him for advice and counsel with emotional and relationship problems. He discovered that he had been practicing casual counseling for much of his adult life. Indeed, many people suggested that he pursue counseling as a profession since he helped so many with his advice. Late in his professional life, Jon enrolled in Minnesota School of Professional Psychology’s graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy. This decision led to professional licensing as a marriage therapist.
Jon is happily married, the father of five wonderful young adults, and the proud grandpa of six amazing grandchildren. He found that drawing from his own life experience has been very valuable in working with clients. Moreover, Jon has personally experienced some of the struggles that they are facing.
As a marriage therapist, Jon is passionate about helping his clients learn to build the lives and relationships they desire. He is truly blessed.
